️ Can you really experience ALL of Sarawak's cultures in ONE day? Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) is a living museum located at the foot of Mount Santubong, about 35 minutes from Kuching city. It's often called "Sarawak in a day" — and honestly, it lives up to the name. You get to walk through authentic replica houses of Sarawak's main ethnic groups: Bidayuh, Iban, Orang Ulu, Penan, Melanau, Malay, and Chinese. Each house is built in the traditional style, with artifacts and info inside. The Iban longhouse — massive and impressive Orang Ulu intricate wood carvings Melanau tall house built by the river Chinese farmhouse with a traditional kitchen What people are saying: Google Maps 4.4 (5,000+ reviews) "This is a must-visit in Kuching. The cultural dance performance is world-class!" — John T. (TripAdvisor) "A great place to learn about Sarawak's diverse cultures in one place. 原来 Sarawak 所有种族都住在一个「村庄」里? 很多人来古晋只知道去 Nature 景点,但如果你真的想搞懂 Sarawak 的文化,Sarawak Cultural Village 是你一定要来一次的地方。 这里被称为 "Sarawak in a day"——一天之内就能穿越到 Bidayuh、Iban、Orang Ulu、Penan、Melanau、Malay、Chinese 的传统房子,现场还有文化舞蹈表演,真的比博物馆好逛十倍。 [image: 1780625586258-cv1-resized.jpg] 来源:Wikimedia Commons (Nada El Houri / CC BY) [image: 1780625586523-cv2-resized.jpg] 来源:Wikimedia Commons (Nada El Houri / CC BY) 环境也是真的很舒服。整个 village 就建在 Santubong 山脚下,靠近 Damai 海滩,空气好到不行。走进来那种热带雨林 + 传统长屋的氛围感,直接拉满。 最值得看的是什么? 文化舞蹈表演(一天两场:11:30am & 4:00pm) 可以看到吹箭表演(sumpit),真的会射! Just weeks after opening, Sarawak's RM848 million landmark bridge is already covered in rubbish — and netizens are calling it out. Batang Lupar Bridge 1, the RM848.7 million, 4.844km bridge that opened on May 21, was meant to be a source of pride for Sarawak. Instead, photos of rubbish scattered along the bridge have gone viral. Facebook user Ef Suhaimi shared images of the mess, comparing it to Brunei's much longer sea bridges that remain clean despite heavier traffic. "I feel embarrassed when looking at Brunei. They have sea bridges over 20km long and you don't see rubbish being thrown on the bridge. Here in Sarawak, it is only about 4km and it already looks like this," he wrote. [image: 1780622070152-batang-lupar-litter-resized.jpeg] Source: Ef Suhaimi / DayakDaily JKR Sarawak responded by urging the public to take responsibility: "Batang Lupar Bridge 1 belongs to all of us. Let us work together to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the bridge, which is a source of pride for the people of Sarawak." The bridge replaces the Sebuyau–Triso ferry service, cutting travel time from 30 minutes to just 5 minutes, and is part of Sarawak's Coastal Road Network development programme. Malaysia's longest river bridge, Batang Lupar Bridge 1, opened just two weeks ago — and it is already scattered with rubbish. A photo shared by Facebook user Ef Suhaimi shows litter strewn along sections of the 4.8km bridge, sparking public disappointment online. "It looks dirty already. Maybe they should have just built a rubbish disposal site instead. Really irresponsible," he wrote. Suhaimi also compared the situation with Brunei, noting that even much longer sea-crossing bridges there remain clean despite heavier traffic. "I feel embarrassed when looking at Brunei. They have sea bridges over 20km long and you don't see rubbish being thrown on the bridge. Here in Sarawak, it is only about 4km and it already looks like this," he added. JKR Sarawak has since responded, calling on the public to take collective responsibility. "Batang Lupar Bridge 1 belongs to all of us. Let us work together to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the bridge, which is a source of pride for the people of Sarawak. Keep it clean, protect Sarawak's image," the department said. The RM848.7 million bridge, which opened on May 21, replaces the Sebuyau–Triso ferry service — cutting travel time from 30 minutes to just 5 minutes. It is part of Sarawak's Coastal Road Network and Second Trunk Road development programme. [image: 1780552949479-energy-link.jpg] Sarawak is set to become Borneo's energy powerhouse — with an undersea cable project capable of supplying electricity to four countries including Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced today that the federal government and the Sarawak government are jointly pursuing a major cross-border energy initiative. Speaking at the Energy Transition Conference 2026 (ETCon26) in Kuala Lumpur, he said the plan involves laying undersea cables to transmit Sarawak's surplus energy to regional markets. "This joint proposal with the Sarawak government utilises a very large energy capacity and provides an undersea route to meet energy needs in Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, as well as Sabah up to the Philippines and Indonesia," said Anwar. Sarawak currently operates three hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 3.5 GW — enough to power about three million households daily. A fourth plant is under construction as part of the state's target to hit 10 GW generation capacity by 2030. Sarawak Premier Abang Johari had previously revealed the undersea cable linking Sarawak to Singapore would span roughly 720km, mostly through Indonesian waters, and is expected to be commercially operational by 2031. Sarawak is just one step away from bringing China's prestigious Fudan University to Sibu — only final approval from Beijing remains. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian announced he will travel to Beijing next week to secure the green light from Chinese authorities. The proposal has already been approved by the Shanghai government, the Sarawak government, and the Malaysian government. The planned campus will include a medical school — a critical move to address Sarawak's shortage of around 2,000 doctors. Dr Sim made the announcement at a dinner in Sibu hosted by the United Chinese Association (UCA) for Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Ouyang Yujing. “Talent development and education remain key priorities for the Sarawak government in our efforts to strengthen human capital and drive long-term development,” Dr Sim said. If approved, this would be Fudan University's first overseas campus — a significant milestone for Sarawak's education landscape. An 80-year-old Kuching man lost RM103,850 after falling for an online investment scam promising big profits. The victim was contacted on WhatsApp by a woman claiming to run a business in Pattaya, Thailand. She offered him a partnership in a "Wholesale International Business Online" scheme through a website she managed. From September 2025 to February 2026, the man made eight bank transfers totalling RM103,850 to six different accounts. He was promised that both capital and returns would be deposited back into his account. Reality hit when he could no longer reach the suspect to ask for his money back. "The victim was directed to carry out a series of payment transactions as part of an alleged investment scheme, with assurances that the capital and returns would be deposited into the victim's account," said Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. [image: 1780102952038-nkia-airfares.jpg] Federal govt open to Sarawak taking bigger role in new Kuching airport — plus talks on cheaper domestic flights Sarawak's Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin met with his federal counterpart Anthony Loke in Putrajaya on May 26, and two big topics came up that affect every Sarawakian who travels. First, the proposed New Kuching International Airport (NKIA). The federal government is now open to exploring a decentralised development model, meaning Sarawak would have a bigger say in planning and building the airport. "Allowing the Sarawak government to play a greater role in the planning and implementation of the project while supporting Sarawak's long-term aviation and economic aspirations," Lee said in a statement. The meeting also covered the submission of the Aerodrome Development Request for NKIA. Domestic airfares — still a pain point for Sarawakians Lee proposed reviving three key routes under the Rural Air Services Public Service Obligation (PSO) framework: Kuching–Sibu Kuching–Bintulu Kuching–Miri This could make domestic flights more affordable for people travelling within Sarawak. Airfare caps were also discussed, with Loke suggesting AirBorneo could operate these routes commercially using its ATR72 aircraft. Also on the table: extra Miri–Bario flights for the upcoming Bario Food and Cultural Festival (Pesta Nukenen Bario) in July, and the long-term Bintulu–Samalaju rail link under the Trans-Borneo Railway initiative. A massive fire tore through a 21-door longhouse in Bekenu in the early hours of this morning, leaving 136 residents without a home. The Fire and Rescue Department received the distress call at 1:17am. Firefighters from Batu Niah and Miri Central stations rushed to Rumah Nelson Ningkan, Jalan Sungai Saeh, Kampung Labau Bekenu to battle the blaze. The longhouse — a non-permanent wooden structure with individual homes measuring 16×100 square feet — was completely destroyed. It took crews seven hours to contain the fire. Firefighters used four water streams to tackle flames from the front, back, and sides of the building. The operation wrapped up at 8:18am. No injuries or deaths were reported, but all 136 residents have been displaced. I'll be real with you — for the longest time, people said Kuching has "nothing to do" But ever since the Borneo Cultures Museum opened, I realised — we actually have a world-class museum right here in Kuching. RM323 million building, largest museum in Malaysia, second largest in Southeast Asia — this is no joke. Let's get straight to it [image: 1780020366019-01-front-view-resized.jpg] Source: Wikimedia Commons First Impression: Massive My friend stood at the entrance and literally froze: "Wait, the WHOLE building is the museum?" — Yes. Yes it is. The architecture draws inspiration from Sarawak's traditional craft motifs, perfectly complementing the nearby new DUN building. "Entry is only RM10, the AC is great, and you can spend the whole day here. Best weekend spot." — Mei F. By April 2024, the museum had already crossed 1 million visitors. There's a reason for that. Sibu is just RM3 million away from becoming Sarawak’s next city — its council reserves have more than doubled since 2019. Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting announced today that the town’s financial reserves have grown to RM47 million, up sharply from RM19 million when he took office in 2019. The threshold for city status is RM50 million. [image: 1779861795348-sibu-city-status.jpg] SMC chairman Clarence Ting speaking at a press conference after launching the WAK Sibu Festival 2026 calendar at Wisma Sanyan on May 26. The second requirement — a population of 300,000 — is also being gradually met as Sibu sees demographic shifts and steady growth. “When I became chairman in 2019, people often asked why Miri could be upgraded to a city but not Sibu. After reviewing the criteria, we were only short of two main requirements,” Ting said. Sibu, long seen as a predominantly Chinese-majority town, is now becoming increasingly diverse, with a growing Iban population and broader ethnic representation. I've been living in Kuching for years, and I only made it to Sarawak Cultural Village last month Honestly, I always thought this was just another tourist trap — a fake village for photo ops. But after visiting… I take it back. This place is massive — 17 acres right across from Damai Beach. A proper walkthrough takes 3-4 hours if you actually stop and explore. [image: 1779847477822-scv1.jpg] Source: TripAdvisor - Aerial view of Sarawak Cultural Village The Village replicates 7 main ethnic groups' traditional houses: Iban Longhouse, Bidayuh Round House, Orang Ulu longhouse, Melanau Tall House, Chinese farmhouse, Malay Kampung house, and Penan hut. Each house has representatives doing actual handicrafts — not just posing for photos. [image: 1779847478114-scv2.jpg] Source: Travel+Leisure Asia The Cultural Show at noon is the highlight — traditional dances from each tribe: Iban's ngajat, Orang Ulu's sape music, Malay dance, Chinese dance… You can tell the performers genuinely enjoy it, not just going through the motions. Real reviews from Google Maps / TripAdvisor: "This is a must-visit in Kuching. The staff were so friendly and engaging." — TripAdvisor traveler "The cultural show was the highlight. Worth the price of admission." — Google Maps 4.4★ (4,785+ reviews) "Can easily spend 4-5 hours here if you take your time exploring each house." — Traveler review "The living museum concept is done really well here, each house feels authentic" — Backpacker "We enjoyed the visit very much. The activities in each of the different houses were very interesting." — TripAdvisor [image: 1779847478319-scv3.jpg] Source: TripAdvisor - Inside the village grounds Practical Info ️ Address: Pantai Damai Santubong, 93752 Kuching (next to Damai Beach) Hours: 9am - 5pm daily Tickets: Malaysians: Adult RM95 / Child RM65 Non-Malaysians: Adult RM135 / Child RM85 Walk-in is RM10 more than online — book ahead Phone: 082-846 108 Website: scv.com.my Pro tips: Arrive by 9am, explore first, then catch the 11:30/12:00 cultural show Bring sunscreen — mostly outdoor Wear comfortable shoes (lots of wooden walkways and slopes) Bring water (they sell it inside but marked up) [image: 1779847478600-scv4.jpg] Source: Travel+Leisure Asia - Chinese farmhouse replica RM95 for Malaysians isn't cheap, but for the scale, maintenance, and show quality — I'd say it's worth it. Not one of those regret-it-later kind of places. **Would you recommend it to friends? Or do you think it's overpriced? Drop a comment below

网上真实评价(整理自 Google Maps / TripAdvisor): "This is a must-visit in Kuching. The staff were so friendly and engaging." — TripAdvisor 旅客 "The cultural show was the highlight. Worth the price of admission." — Google Maps 4.4★ (4,785+ reviews) "我原本以为会很闷,结果比我想象中有趣很多,尤其那些传统音乐表演" — 本地游客 "Can easily spend 4-5 hours here if you take your time exploring each house." — 游客评论 "The living museum concept is done really well here, each house feels authentic" — 背包客 [image: 1779847478319-scv3.jpg] 来源:TripAdvisor - Sarawak Cultural Village 园内 实用资讯 ️ 地址:Pantai Damai Santubong, 93752 Kuching(Damai Beach 旁边) 时间:9am - 5pm 每日 门票: 马来西亚人:成人 RM95 / 小孩 RM65 外国人:成人 RM135 / 小孩 RM85 Walk-in 和 online 价格差 RM10,建议提前网上买 电话:082-846 108 官网:scv.com.my 个人小心得: 早上 9 点到最好,可以先逛一圈再去 11:30 / 12:00 的文化表演 记得涂防晒,大部分是户外的 穿舒服的鞋(很多木板路和斜坡) 带水,园内虽然有卖但比外面贵 [image: 1779847478600-scv4.jpg] 来源:Travel+Leisure Asia - 华人农舍 老实说 RM95 对大马人来说不算便宜,但以这个规模、维护程度和表演质量来说,我觉得值回票价。不是那种让你去了后悔的景点。 **你会推荐朋友去吗?还是你其实也觉得是 tourist trap?留言告诉我
