The operating date has not been set because several matters are still being finalised, so this is not a start-date or ticket-sales announcement. A second flight trial took place on Sept 26 as part of readiness checks. A separate report said the test flight from Kuching took about 15 minutes, compared with roughly three hours by road to Betong. That trial time is not a published passenger timetable. The project is expected to improve access for Betong and Spaoh, but residents will need to wait for an operational date and confirmed service details.

Three outdoor activities planned for Sunday at Sarawakku Sayang in Betong have been cancelled as haze persists. The programme organisers cancelled aerobics, Betong Berekot and Ngohet Sikai after consulting the Betong Divisional Health Office, which cited unhealthy API readings. The three-day programme is being held at Betong Sports Complex from Sept 25 to 27. Organisers said the rest of the programme would continue as scheduled while conditions are monitored. Visitors planning to attend on Sunday should leave those three activities out of their plans and check for any further notices before travelling.

The old Batang Layar Bridge in Betong is expected to reopen on Saturday after two weeks of repair work, but heavy vehicles will still need to use alternative routes. The bridge was closed after structural damage was found and repairs were carried out to protect road users. Sarawak Public Works Department director Cassidy Morris said the bridge is recommended for light vehicles because of its age. A final safety inspection by Betong Division JKR is due before the reopening. That means the Saturday date remains conditional on the inspection, rather than a blanket return to normal traffic. Drivers heading in and out of Betong should follow the latest site instructions. Heavy vehicles should continue planning for the alternative routes even if the bridge opens to cars and other light traffic.

Bebuling Short Take-Off and Landing Airport in Spaoh, Betong has completed its first trial landing, bringing the rural facility closer to service while leaving the commercial launch date open. A Super King 300 aircraft landed at the newly completed STOLport on Friday after departing Kuching at 10am. The trial was described as smooth, but further discussions on safety, operations and maintenance must be completed before licensing and commercial operations are finalised. The RM248.03 million facility has a runway of about 1.19km and is designed to support passenger flights as well as cargo linked to agriculture and other local industries. A Kuching-Bebuling flight is expected to take about 15 minutes, compared with roughly three hours by road to Betong. The trial is therefore a readiness milestone, not an announcement of scheduled flights. The next public detail to watch is the licensing and safety approval process.

The old Batang Layar Bridge in Betong has been closed since Sept 4 and may stay shut for up to two weeks while safety repairs are carried out. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the Public Works Department found structural concerns at the bridge. Even if the repair work finishes early, the closure may run for the full two weeks so the crossing can be checked before reopening. The replacement bridge has passed 70 per cent physical progress. The wider project, including related road works, is more than 40 per cent complete. Uggah asked the contractor to use the current dry weather to speed up construction. For people travelling through Betong, the confirmed position is simple: the old crossing is not yet open, and the new bridge is still a construction project. A 35-hectare peatland fire in Jalan Bungin, Serembang, Betong has been fully extinguished after seven days of firefighting. The operation ended at 4pm on Aug 28 after crews cleared all six fire sectors. Bomba said teams tackled remaining hotspots with pumps and hose lines, while an excavator opened access through difficult terrain. The fire covered an initial 33 hectares before spreading to another two. Drone monitoring by the Natural Resources and Environment Board found no remaining smoke or fire after the final firefighting work. Crews had to work around narrow access routes, limited water sources and weak radio and mobile coverage. Monitoring will continue from time to time, so people should keep away from the affected peatland and report any new smoke to the authorities.
