The matter was discussed during a courtesy visit by Indonesian Consul General in Kuching, Dr Abdullah Zulkifli, to Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin. The routes discussed include Jakarta, Balikpapan and Pontianak. Transport links also on the table Both sides also talked about improving land connectivity through ICQS checkpoints along the Sarawak-Kalimantan border. Lee said movement between Sarawak and Kalimantan is growing, so better transport links would help tourism, trade, investment and people-to-people ties. The Sarawak Brigade of the General Operations Force recorded 18 successful operations from July 1 to July 13. The seizures involved unlicensed frozen products, subsidised diesel, illegal timber and wildlife-related items. What was seized More than 60 tonnes of frozen products without permits were found in Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Sri Aman and Kuching. GOF also seized nearly 16,000 litres of diesel in Sri Aman and Kota Samarahan, together with tanks, heavy machinery and other equipment. Other cases involved logs, processed timber, agarwood, swiftlet nests, rice, frozen meat and undocumented migrants. Malaysians will soon be able to apply for a passport that lasts 10 years instead of the current 5 — and it will cost RM350. Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban confirmed the change is coming this year, adding that the current 5-year option will remain available.
