Road widening and raising at Jalan Ma Onn began on Oct 12 and is expected to take about five months, while the separate Jalan Sungai Tengah 5 upgrade was completed on Sept 11. The Padawan Municipal Council gave the two different project timelines in an Oct 23 statement reported by DayakDaily. The Jalan Ma Onn works follow residents’ concerns about flash flooding and are intended to improve road conditions as well as reduce that risk. The five-month estimate is subject to weather and site conditions. It is a construction estimate, not a guarantee that flooding will end by a fixed date. For people using Jalan Ma Onn, the relevant point is that this remains an active works project. At Jalan Sungai Tengah 5, widening was carried out to address a narrow road and improve access. Council representatives visited the finished project on Oct 23 for a contractor briefing; that visit was not its completion date. The announcement therefore covers one road still being upgraded and another where the widening is already finished. It does not give a detailed lane-closure or diversion schedule for Jalan Ma Onn.

The RM74 million road upgrade from the Bau–Lundu junction to Bau Town is only one section of the network, not the whole Bau–Kuching dual-carriageway upgrade. Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh asked the Sarawak government to set out when subsequent phases would proceed during the October 14 state-budget debate, DayakDaily reported. He pointed to the route's daily role in getting people to Kuching for work, classes, healthcare and business. The distinction matters for commuters: progress on the town section does not establish a delivery date for the rest of the corridor. The report identifies the first phase as 3.65km and records a separate announcement in May 2025 approving more than RM500 million for Phase 2 of Jalan Bau Lama. Pa Lungan's utility improvements and road works are moving at different speeds: 47 households now have clean water, electricity and telecommunications connectivity, while the road upgrade is 4.7 per cent complete. The update followed an October 6 monitoring visit to the remote Bario community. In a statement after the visit, the deputy minister responsible for project monitoring said the road works remained on schedule. Electricity is supplied through the Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (SARES). The water facility and telecommunications connection are reported as amenities already benefiting residents, rather than services waiting for the road to be finished. For the village, that distinction matters: access to basic utilities has improved, but the road project is still at an early construction stage. A RM95 million upgrade of the Kampung Semeru–Kampung Kuhom link road has begun, with completion targeted for May 2028. The route serves nine villages in the Tebedu and Tarat constituencies. The project is under the Greater Kuching Coordinating Development Agency (GKCDA), with Sarawak’s Public Works Department (JKR) implementing the work. Its stated construction period is 24 months. The upgrade is more than resurfacing: it includes work to JKR R3 standards, realignment of hazardous sections and bends, new road sections, drainage and related structures. These are the changes intended to improve access to facilities and local economic activities once the project is completed. The villages covered are Kampung Semeru, Kampung Bukit Nanas, Kampung Plaman Dunuk, Kampung Senah Rayang, Kampung Padus Stubot, Kampung Bisira Rayang, Kampung Kuhom Mawang, Kampung Kuhom Mandeg and Kampung Rudan. An earth-breaking ceremony was held in Semeru on September 30. The May 2028 date is the project’s completion target, not an announcement that the improved route is already ready for use.

The proposed Jalan Stutong expansion in Kuching has been approved, but construction is not about to start. A contractor’s letter of appointment is expected in two to three weeks, after which the project can move into its commencement stage. The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) says a public online briefing on traffic arrangements should be held before work begins. That leaves residents and drivers with an important distinction: the project has approval, while the contractor and work programme are still pending. Jalan Stutong has been the subject of earlier widening and upgrade studies near the BDC junction and SJK(C) Chung Hua No. 2. A RM2.34 million project will widen the traffic-light junction linking Jalan Ling Kai Cheng and Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah in Sibu. 500km of Kakus logging roads earmarked for upgrades About 500km of logging roads in interior Kakus has been identified for phased upgrading, with the aim of improving access for communities that still lack reliable road connectivity. The roads named in the latest update include Jalan Penyarai, Jalan Sungai Muput, the route to Ulu Kakus, Jalan Sangan–Nanga Merit and Jalan Nanga Takan. The figure is part of roughly 5,700km of logging roads across Sarawak identified for upgrading. This is an identification and planning update, not a promise that all 500km will be rebuilt at once. The works are expected to be phased because of cost and difficult interior terrain; no start dates, tender packages or completion targets for the five routes were announced in the update. For people travelling in Kakus, the practical point is to expect uneven conditions to remain while each phase is prepared.
