The RM40.8 million riverbank protection project at Kampung Sageng in Simunjan had reached 24.95% completion on Sept 25, against a scheduled 68.77%. That leaves a gap of 43.82 percentage points—not 43.82% of work that has been cancelled. The project covers 968 metres of riverbank protection intended to reduce erosion risks near residential settlements. After inspecting it on Sept 29, Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee asked the contractor for a clear recovery plan. Technical adjustments prompted by actual river conditions were cited as a factor in the slower progress. A separate scheme, the RM22.34 million Simunjan Flood Mitigation Plan Phase 1, was further along at 70.09% on the same reporting date. That scheme covers a wider drainage and flood-control package: drainage upgrades, a retention pond, deepening Sungai Kelka and tidal control gates. April 2027 was given as the expected completion for that flood-mitigation scheme, subject to an extension-of-time decision. It was not announced as a fixed completion date for the Kampung Sageng riverbank project. For residents, the two progress figures should not be mixed together: one concerns protection along a particular stretch of riverbank, while the other covers a separate flood-mitigation system. The next update that matters is the riverbank contractor’s recovery programme and whether the remaining flood-control work meets its revised timetable. Neither reported percentage means the full protection is already in place.

Fire crews faced water, access and communications problems at three separate forest and peatland fires in Daro and Simunjan, according to the latest updates issued between Aug 31 and Sept 2. On Pulau Bruit, the Kampung Kut fire covered about 7.5 hectares. By the latest report, crews had extinguished 2.5 hectares and still had roughly five hectares to tackle. A second fire at Kampung Penuai, reported on Sept 1, affected about three hectares and was being contained away from nearby roads and homes. In Simunjan, a peat fire at Kampung Lubok Punggor affected about 3.5 hectares. Two hectares had been put out by the evening of Sept 2. Work stopped at 6.30pm for safety and was due to resume on the remaining 1.5 hectares the next day. Strong winds and thick smoke made hotspots harder to reach, while some sites had poor road and radio access. No cause had been confirmed, and no later outcome for the two Daro fires was available in the reports checked.

Simunjan’s water upgrade has a 2029 finish line — but affected areas are expected to get a nearer-term boost from a separate tank project. The elevated water tank planned for Kampung Hijrah is targeted for completion in August 2027. It is intended to help areas facing interruptions while the main pipeline works are carried out. Raw water levels at the Simunjan Water Treatment Plant have fallen below one metre due to prolonged dry weather, forcing the Sarawak government to plan three immediate measures. Simunjan requires about 10 million litres of water per day (MLD), but is currently receiving only 4.5 to 5 MLD through the existing supply system, supplemented by water from Sarawak Water and Serian.
