老实说，古晋河边这个地方不是那种很吵、很多东西买的景点。Brooke Dockyard 比较像你走到一半，看到旧铁皮屋顶、河边倒影、还有地上的老轨道，突然想到：原来古晋以前真的有自己的船厂时代。

So my honest take: do not come expecting a huge full-day museum. Come for a compact heritage stop, photos, and a better feel for Kuching's old river trade and ship-repair story. If you already like Old Court House, Main Bazaar, the Waterfront, or those slightly rough old-town corners, this one fits nicely into the same walk.

伦杜Samunsan森林保护区发现一场估计约2公顷的森林火灾。

伦杜消拯局在8月20日下午约2时40分接到通知。砂拉越森林机构通过无人机监测发现火势，消拯员随后携带打火拍进入森林灭火。不过，现场天黑后能见度下降，行动在下午约5时暂停。

A forest fire covering an estimated two hectares has been detected at the Samunsan Forest Reserve in Lundu.

Bomba Lundu responded at about 2.40pm on Aug 20 after the fire was spotted through drone monitoring by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation. Firefighters entered the forest with fire beaters, but operations were suspended around 5pm when darkness reduced visibility.

Residents near the affected area should keep away from smoke, unstable structures and emergency operations. The cause, total loss and final clearance should be treated as pending until the responding authority confirms them.

The RM150 million remedial project for the Sungai Sarawak barrage had still not received final implementation approval as of Aug 20, despite the federal allocation being announced in March.

Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin raised the delay after a site briefing on riverbed scouring near the barrage. The federal government announced RM150 million on March 13, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) was named implementing agency, and DID Sarawak later submitted the latest proposal to DID Malaysia for consideration and approval.

Allocation, approval and construction are three different stages. A budget announcement does not mean a contractor has started work. At that point, the proposal was still moving through the approval process, which is why the minister called for it to be accelerated.

The barrage has operated since Dec 1, 1997 as part of the Sungai Sarawak Regulation Scheme. Its five radial gates, navigation shiplock and bridge support flood mitigation, river-level management and navigation around Kuching.

No closure or immediate public emergency was announced. The issue is planned remedial work for continued safe and reliable operation. The next facts worth watching are final approval, tender or contractor appointment, scope of works and the construction timetable.

如果你想找一个不用排满满行程的半日 outing，我会把 Telaga Air Waterfront 放进候选名单。

它不是那种一下车就让人“哇”的大型景点，吸引我的地方反而是够简单：看看渔船、吹河风、沿着 waterfront 走一圈，再找附近的海鲜或本地档口吃点东西。整个节奏不会太赶，比较像给自己安排一个轻松的下午。

从 Kuching Waterfront 开车过去，大约 35–40 分钟，实际时间还是看交通。这个距离对我来说刚刚好：不至于远到要安排整天，但也足够让人离开市区，换个环境吹吹风。

我会建议下午比较迟才到，不要在最晒的时候走 waterfront。天气好的话，可以慢慢看船进出，等接近傍晚再吃东西；如果刚好遇到周末，人潮和气氛通常会比平日明显。

I checked Google Maps, DayakDaily, 360Tour.Asia, and Malaysia Traveller before writing this. The feeling is quite consistent: people like Telaga Air because it is simple, local, breezy, and not trying too hard to be a big tourist attraction.

Google Maps lists Telaga Air Waterfront at about 4.4 stars from 135 reviews, with the address at Jeti, Kampung Telaga Air. That matches the usual visitor mood: nice for a short stroll, calm river view, and usually not too busy outside peak weekend hours.

DayakDaily described Telaga Air as an awesome place to hang out, about 30 minutes from Kuching, especially if you just want to get away for half a day. Their write-up also keeps coming back to the small things: friendly villagers, fresh seafood, local snacks, and the hawker centre opposite the waterfront.

360Tour.Asia calls it a peaceful waterfront beside Sungai Sibu, with fishing boats, sea breeze, a jetty, local food stalls, sunset photo angles, and boats returning with the catch. Malaysia Traveller is a bit more honest, which I like: apart from fishing, food, the small riverfront park, and boat trips, there is not a huge list of things to do. That is exactly the point. You come here to slow down, not to tick ten attractions in one afternoon.

一名22岁古晋男子让户口收取诈骗款，被判罚1万令吉。

被告Dominic Unya Dunggat在古晋推事庭承认有罪，因触犯刑事法典第424C(1)条文，被判罚RM10,000；若无法缴付罚款，则监禁3个月。

案情显示，一名受害者接到陌生人通过WhatsApp打来的电话。对方自称是来自中国的亲属，并以借钱为由骗走受害者RM10,000。受害者之后分3次把钱转入Dominic的银行户口。

这3笔转账是在2025年7月25日进行，金额分别是RM4,950、RM4,950和RM100。调查发现，Dominic曾把银行卡交给一名认识已久的朋友。

遇到可疑要求，先暂停、用独立方式核实并保留证据。不要把银行户口借给别人，也不要把钱转到所谓的安全户口。

A 22-year-old Kuching man has been fined RM10,000 after his bank account was used to receive scam money.

The Magistrates' Court fined Dominic Unya Dunggat RM10,000, or three months' jail in default, after he pleaded guilty under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code.

The court heard that a victim transferred RM10,000 in three payments after receiving a WhatsApp call from someone claiming to be a relative from China who asked for a loan. Investigators later found that Dominic had handed his bank card to a longtime friend.

The three transfers, made on July 25, 2025, were RM4,950, RM4,950 and RM100.

The safest response is to stop, verify through an independent number and keep the evidence. Do not lend out a bank account or move money to a so-called safe account.

霾害加剧，砂拉越591所学校明天继续停课。

砂拉越教育局表示，临时停课措施从8月20日即时生效，并延长至明天（8月21日），原因是多个地区下午3时录得不健康的空气污染指数（API）。

这次涉及509所小学（107,590名学生）和82所中学（89,733名学生），共10个县教育局：古晋、Padawan、Bau、Lundu、Samarahan、Simunjan、Serian、Sri Aman、Lubok Antu和Betong。

教育局要求学校通过环境局APIMS系统留意空气指数，并遵照卫生部的建议。若情况有变化，教育局会再发出通知。

Haze is keeping 591 Sarawak schools closed on Aug 21.

The Sarawak Education Department said the temporary closure took effect on Aug 20 and will continue tomorrow, Aug 21, after unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings were recorded at 3pm.

The order affects 509 primary schools with 107,590 pupils and 82 secondary schools with 89,733 students. The 10 affected district education offices cover Kuching, Padawan, Bau, Lundu, Samarahan, Simunjan, Serian, Sri Aman, Lubok Antu and Betong.

Schools have been told to monitor readings through the Department of Environment's APIMS system and follow Ministry of Health advice. Any further update will be announced by the department.

Because these readings are tied to 2026-08-20, parents should check the latest APIMS update and their school's notice before making plans for attendance or outdoor activities. A reopening is not a permanent all-clear if the API rises again.

Pending Port handled about 217,500 tonnes of cargo in the first half of 2026, down from about 764,800 tonnes during the same period last year, figures cited by DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen show.

Chong, who is also Stampin MP and Padungan assemblyman, said the drop raised questions about restrictions on ships with an air draft exceeding 26 metres after the Sejingkat Bridge came into operation. Roll-on/roll-off cargo, mainly vehicles, fell from about 380,000 tonnes involving 27,347 vehicles in the first half of 2025 to 2,435 tonnes involving 15 vehicles this year.

He said cargo had shifted to Senari Port, where throughput rose from about 3.46 million tonnes to 4.12 million tonnes. Chong claimed the shift had caused congestion, longer vessel waiting times and cargo deliveries into Kuching taking one to two weeks longer.

Deputy Premier Douglas Uggah Embas said Pending Port remained fully operational. Kuching Port Authority general manager Robert Lau said Pending Terminal was being repositioned to handle suitable domestic cargo, while Senari handles vessels requiring greater clearance. KPA recorded 179 ship calls and about 217,600 tonnes at Pending between January and June 2026.

Changes in port handling can affect vessel waiting times and delivery schedules even when a terminal remains operational. Businesses moving cargo into Kuching should confirm the latest arrangement with the port authority rather than rely on a single political claim or an old estimate.

有些古晋 outing 不需要排满满行程。Telaga Air Waterfront 就是那种开车 40 分钟左右，吹吹河风、看看渔船、走一圈、顺便吃点海鲜，然后轻轻松松回家的地方。

古晋双溪阿榜渔业码头将加速挖泥，改善渔船进出及停泊条件。

砂拉越交通部长拿督斯里李金信于8月19日巡视码头后，指示砂拉越河流局（SRB）加快挖泥工程。

工程将清除码头附近的河床沉积物，并移走影响河道通行的沉船。渔民较早前也要求加深河道，同时清理码头附近的树木。

双溪阿榜渔业协会已于8月5日提呈正式申请。渔民反映，水位浅及河道通行不便，影响渔船前往码头和停泊。

李金信表示，改善水深和码头通道，能让渔业社区的日常作业更顺畅。

港口安排变化会影响船只等候和货物送入古晋的时间，即使码头本身仍在运作。涉及货运的商家应向港务局确认最新安排，不要只根据单一说法或旧数字作决定。

Urgent excavation has been ordered at Kuching’s Sg Apong Fishery Wharf to improve access for fishing boats.

Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin directed the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) to speed up excavation works after visiting the wharf with Ministry of Transport Sarawak officers on Aug 19.

The works will remove sedimentation near the wharf and clear a wreck that is affecting river access. Fishermen had also asked for the river channel to be deepened and trees near the wharf to be cleared.

The Sungai Apong fishing association submitted its official application on Aug 5. Fishermen said shallow water and poor access have made it harder for boats to reach and berth at the wharf.

Lee said the works are needed to make daily operations smoother for the fishing community.
