Kuching motorists face additional lane restrictions around Jalan Tun Jugah under Sarawak Metro's traffic plan effective from 11pm on October 7, with the arrangement expected to last about three months. Both slip roads between Jalan Tun Jugah and Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho are being narrowed to one lane. A lane at the Jalan Song traffic lights, before the right turn towards Jalan Tun Jugah, is also included in the closure plan. This is a reduction in available lanes, not a complete road closure. Sarawak Metro says at least one lane will remain open at the affected sections, so traffic from Jalan Song and Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho can still continue towards Tun Jugah and the city centre. Drivers should expect slower movement, especially at peak hours, and follow the signs at each work zone. The new phase accommodates bored-piling machinery and construction of piers for the elevated ART guideway between Tun Jugah and Upland stations on the KUTS Red Line. The three-month estimate concerns these traffic arrangements; it is not an ART service-opening date. A temporary drainage fix is coming to the KUTS project site along Jalan Tun Jugah after nearby residents raised flash-flood concerns. Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the issue came from residents around Jalan Durian Burung, near the Federal Staff Quarters. They were worried that an existing roadside open drain had been buried and replaced with metal pipes that were too small, possibly worsening flash floods in an area already known to flood. Yap said the contractor agreed to further widen the outlet while waiting for the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), which is expected to arrive in early August. Once TBM works begin, the underground crossing below Jalan Tun Jugah is expected to be completed by October, allowing a more permanent drainage solution after that.
