Sarawak recorded RM11.2 billion in approved investments in the first half of 2026, Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg said on October 10.
The figure is an approval total, not a measure of money already spent or projects already operating. Announcing it at Padang Merdeka in Kuching, the Premier called for incoming investment to be connected with Sarawak companies in engineering, maintenance, logistics, manufacturing technology and professional services.
That local-supplier link is the part that matters to businesses beyond the main investor. A factory or energy project can create work for other firms, but an approval by itself does not establish which companies will receive contracts or when hiring will begin.
The Premier identified semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, green energy, hydrogen, methanol, artificial intelligence, aerospace and food production among the sectors shaping the state's economic direction. He did not provide a project-by-project breakdown of the RM11.2 billion in the reported announcement. For local suppliers, the next useful information is the approved projects' implementation and procurement plans, rather than assuming every approval has already become an operating business.
