Bintulu Port Holdings has launched a shared digital procurement marketplace connecting its subsidiaries with more than 250 suppliers. The platform replaces paper-based quotations with catalogue-based purchasing and links to the group's existing BePRO system. Buyers can compare prices and delivery lead times, while orders are tracked from purchase order through goods receipt to invoice. Under the arrangement reported by The Borneo Post on October 13, Koperasi Pelabuhan Bintulu Bhd (KOPELA) acts as the sole master vendor and Borong runs the technology. The contract lasts two years, with an option for a further year. Bintulu Port says the suppliers already onboarded include 99 existing registered bidders and 153 Sarawak-based vendors. For local businesses, the change is a digital catalogue channel to reach the group's buyers, not a promise that every registered supplier will receive an order. Specialised maritime services, including vessel supplies, bunkering and maintenance, are described as the next expansion step. They should not be mistaken for services already available on the new marketplace.

Sarawak recorded RM11.2 billion in approved investments in the first half of 2026, Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg said on October 10. The figure is an approval total, not a measure of money already spent or projects already operating. Announcing it at Padang Merdeka in Kuching, the Premier called for incoming investment to be connected with Sarawak companies in engineering, maintenance, logistics, manufacturing technology and professional services. That local-supplier link is the part that matters to businesses beyond the main investor. A factory or energy project can create work for other firms, but an approval by itself does not establish which companies will receive contracts or when hiring will begin. The Premier identified semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, green energy, hydrogen, methanol, artificial intelligence, aerospace and food production among the sectors shaping the state's economic direction. He did not provide a project-by-project breakdown of the RM11.2 billion in the reported announcement. For local suppliers, the next useful information is the approved projects' implementation and procurement plans, rather than assuming every approval has already become an operating business.
