Kuching’s RM3 billion network-reinforcement project has a first-phase completion target of the second quarter of 2028, while the second phase is still being studied. The utility and telecommunication minister reported progress of 32.2 per cent in the Oct 19 State Legislative Assembly update. The first phase covers the Entingan–Tanjong Bako route, providing power infrastructure for future development in the Kuching and Samarahan divisions, including Tanjung Embang. Its components are advancing at different speeds. The Entingan B 275kV substation was 30.3 per cent complete, the Tanjong Bako 275kV substation 21 per cent, and the connecting 275kV transmission line 77.5 per cent. A transmission line close to completion does not mean the whole first phase is ready: the substations remain part of the work. The Demak Laut–Santubong second phase has a separate timetable. Its feasibility study is expected to finish in the first quarter of 2027, with construction scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2028. That is a proposed start window, not another facility due to open in 2028. For the Kuching area, the update sets out how future electricity capacity is being prepared. It does not announce a household power interruption, a tariff change or an operational opening of the planned Tanjung Embang developments.
