Sarawak's Road Transport Department seized eight vehicles for further investigation after checking 759 along two Batu Kawa routes on October 14. JPJ said the operations covered Jalan MJC–Batu Kawa and Jalan Batu Kawa–Kuching under Ops HID/LED, Ops Luxury and Ops Pemandu Warga Asing. Its account was reported on October 16. The seized vehicles included a luxury vehicle with expired road tax and insurance, a pickup driven without a licence, and a car and five motorcycles with extreme modifications. Detected offences across the operations also included expired driving licences, seat-belt violations, non-compliant plates, HID/LED use and technical vehicle offences. For drivers on these commuter routes, the department's account points to several separate compliance checks: valid road tax does not replace valid insurance or a driving licence, while lighting, plates and modifications carry their own requirements. The 759 figure is the number inspected, not the number found in breach; the eight seizures remain subject to investigation. The operations took place on October 14, rather than being a live roadblock notice.

New registrations of potentially affected Chery Omoda 5 models and variants are being put on hold while JPJ investigates safety risks. The Road Transport Department’s October 11 statement sets out a temporary suspension of the relevant Vehicle Type Approval. It describes a targeted measure, not a finding that every Chery vehicle has the same defect. The registration hold is relevant to buyers awaiting delivery in Sarawak as well as elsewhere in Malaysia. Chery Malaysia must identify potentially affected vehicles using component part numbers, production batches, Vehicle Identification Numbers and other technical information. Vehicles identified as being at risk must be recalled for inspection and corrective work. Existing owners therefore need a vehicle-specific check with Chery, rather than assuming that a model name alone establishes whether their car is affected. JPJ will also audit production and assembly processes and the relevant axle supplier, including quality control and weld inspections. The suspension will be lifted only after corrective and preventive work is completed and JPJ gives technical confirmation that the safety risks have been addressed. No end date or complete affected-VIN list is set out in the statement.

A vehicle owner unable to reach a JPJ counter for health reasons received a home visit in Sarikei for the thumbprint verification needed for an ownership transfer. Two officers from JPJ Sarikei's Vehicle Licensing Division carried out the check on October 7, following a request from the registered owner. JPJ Sarawak described the visit in a statement reported by TVS on October 8 and said it would continue expanding mobile-thumbprint services. The service brings the identity check to the owner; it does not remove the ownership-transfer requirements. That distinction matters for families helping someone who cannot readily travel to a counter. The Sarikei case gives those families a specific service to ask JPJ about before arranging a trip. It is not a promise that every request will qualify: the announcement did not set out statewide coverage, application steps, fees or waiting times. Arrangements for an individual owner still need to be confirmed with JPJ.

809 Residents in Tupong Get B2 Motorcycle Licence for Just RM250 — Programme Saves Participants Hundreds of Ringgit Tupong assemblyman Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme aims to make licences more affordable, with participants paying only RM250 instead of the usual RM500-RM700. [image: 1786336442134-tupong-resized.jpg] A total of 809 participants received their licences in a single ceremony at SUPP Sungai Tengah Hall. The oldest beneficiary was born in 1967 (59 years old), while the youngest was born in 2010 (16 years old). "This morning, all 809 participants here will receive their licences, obtained at a fee of only RM250. But elsewhere, it costs RM500, RM600 and even RM700," said Fazzrudin. He acknowledged that while participants paid a small amount, the actual cost of running the programme was much higher and required cooperation between his team, JPJ Sarawak, and Cangiran Driving Institute. Also present was JPJ Sarawak director Norizan Jili. Location: Tupong, Kuching Details: 809 residents received subsidised B2 motorcycle licences Source: Borneo Post What do you think?
