Sarawak’s interim special grant will rise to RM1.5 billion a year from 2026, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced in Kuching on Sept 16.
The payment is made under the Malaysia Agreement 1963. The higher figure is an interim arrangement while Putrajaya and Sarawak continue negotiating a longer-term formula.
That distinction matters: the announcement sets a larger annual amount for the interim period, but it does not settle the final mechanism for calculating the grant. The next step is the continuing federal-state talks.
