    Police seized 25kg of suspected methamphetamine in MJC Batu Kawah, with a 63-year-old man arrested. Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Zainal Abdullah said the suspect was inside an SUV when police found the drugs, believed to be methamphetamine. What police said Police believe the man was acting as a runner for a drug trafficking syndicate. He tested negative for drugs, but police said he had previous records under the Entertainment Ordinance and the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953. The suspect has been remanded until Thursday. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.     Forty-nine people tested positive for drugs in a Bintulu AADK operation covering eight hotspot areas. [image: 1784520362202-bintulu-aadk-drug-operation-resized.jpg] AADK Bintulu screened individuals during an integrated operation last Friday at locations including Jalan Bintulu-Sibu, Kampung Dato, Kampung Baru, Bukit Nyabau, Kampung Jepak, workers' quarters along Jalan Bintulu-Miri, PPR Bandaria Park and Kampung Penan Muslim Batu 10. The agency said all 49 people screened tested positive. Forty were positive for methamphetamine, eight for ketum and one for THC. The group included a pregnant woman and a minor. What happens next AADK Sarawak said the cases will go through further action under the relevant law, including assessment to decide suitable treatment and rehabilitation. The agency also said it will keep strengthening detection, enforcement and rehabilitation work in high-risk communities. Sibu MP Oscar Ling said Home Ministry data tabled in Parliament showed the number of people involved in drug and substance abuse in Sibu rose from 903 in 2024 to 1,270 in 2025. That increase is higher than Sarawak's overall rise of 17.6%, where statewide cases went from 10,705 to 12,590 over the same period. Main concern Ling said amphetamine-type stimulants were the most commonly abused drugs in Sibu, making up about 82.7% of cases in 2025. ATS-related cases rose from 639 to 1,050. He urged police, the National Anti-Drug Agency and schools to strengthen enforcement, prevention programmes and community education, especially for youths.
