Sarawak has provided RM30,000 to train people with disabilities in four skills categories as they seek places at the 2027 International Abilympics in Finland. The grant goes through the Social Welfare Department to the Sarawak OKU Skills Development Association, known as Sosda. It supports training rather than confirming that everyone in the programme has secured a place on Malaysia’s team. The Borneo Post reported that training covers floral arrangement, poster design, reflexology and photography. Pretty Petals is involved in floral arrangement, GiatMara Stampin in poster design and Centexs Santubong in photography, giving the programme a direct link to skills providers in the Kuching area. Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Fatimah Abdullah described the support at a press conference at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Complex on Oct 21. The emphasis was on skills that can also support employment and independent income, not only competition results. The association reported that one Sarawak participant had qualified in floral arrangement, while it was working to help others qualify. Training across four categories therefore should not be mistaken for four confirmed national-team entries.
