Sarawak's electoral-boundary review received 126 objections and seven submissions supporting the proposed recommendations during the September exhibition. The Election Commission will now examine all 133 representations at a special meeting before determining the local-inquiry process.
The EC set out that next stage in an October 8 statement, following the exhibition from September 1 to 30. Particular attention will go to representations that meet the requirements for consideration at a local inquiry.
Submitting an objection is not the same as having it accepted for an inquiry. Eligible parties are to receive attendance notices at least two weeks before proceedings, but the statement did not announce an inquiry date or say that all 126 objections qualify.
For Kuching and other Sarawak voters, this is a procedural update rather than confirmation of new constituency boundaries. The review runs within a two-year period beginning September 1, 2026, and is to conclude with a final report submitted to the Prime Minister. The special meeting and notices are the next steps to follow; final boundaries were not announced in this update.
