Simunjan’s water upgrade has a 2029 finish line — but affected areas are expected to get a nearer-term boost from a separate tank project.
The elevated water tank planned for Kampung Hijrah is targeted for completion in August 2027. It is intended to help areas facing interruptions while the main pipeline works are carried out. The public announcement does not yet give a village-by-village schedule, contractor or temporary-supply plan.
The main Simunjan package will replace or upgrade 73.2km of ageing pipes at RM45.7 million. It is part of a wider Samarahan distribution upgrade covering 148.3km at RM84.37 million. Some work is expected to start at the end of 2026 or early 2027, with the wider programme due to be completed in phases by 2029.
Residents should treat this as a project timeline, not a promise that current disruptions have ended. Keep following JBALB and local-authority notices, record the dates and locations of outages, and expect temporary access or supply changes once construction reaches an affected area. The next useful updates are the formal start notice, tank progress and the first list of pipe sections under construction.

古晋今天下午遭强风暴雨袭击，古晋国际机场抵达区一段屋顶受损，市内多个地点也出现树倒。
机场人员正在评估受损范围，RELA 人员则协助维持交通；现场受损区域已被围起。Tabuan Dayak 另有公寓屋顶板和结构件被吹落，砸到附近住宅，公开报道暂未指出有人受伤。

A powerful afternoon storm damaged part of the Kuching International Airport arrival-area roof and brought down trees in several parts of Kuching.
Airport personnel were assessing the damaged section while RELA officers helped control traffic. The affected area was cordoned off in the scene report. Elsewhere, fallen trees damaged vehicles, and roofing sheets from an apartment block in Tabuan Dayak landed on nearby homes. No injuries were reported in that incident.
Bomba Sarawak also reported multiple tree-fall incidents across the Kuching and Samarahan divisions. MetMalaysia’s 3.55pm update warned of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in much of Sarawak, including Kuching, until 7pm on Aug 25.
There is still no public confirmation of a full flight disruption or a repair timeline for the airport area. Anyone travelling through KIA should check directly with the airline before leaving, while drivers should avoid fallen trees, loose roofing and cordoned-off roads. Do not shelter under trees or damaged structures while the weather warning remains active.

星期二下午5时的最新APIMS数据，以西连182最高；斯里阿曼172、古晋156、三马拉汉155，以及泗里街154也仍属不健康。上午10时，西连一度报194、古晋176，说明雨势暂时改善部分地区，烟霾情况却还没有完全解除。
API介于101至200属于不健康。古晋雨后数字下降，不代表全市空气已经恢复正常；不同监测站的读数可以相差很大，风向和降雨变化也会让指数再次上升。
居民如果要进行户外工作、运动，或跨区出行，最好先查看APIMS最新监测站数据，不要只凭住家附近的天空判断空气情况。指数仍超过100时，对烟霾较敏感的人应减少剧烈户外活动。
同一份更新也显示，马鲁帝进入气象局第1级炎热天气警戒，代表当地最高气温连续至少3天达到35至37摄氏度。接下来应留意这5个不健康监测站会否在后续雨势下跌破101，或在天气转干后再次上升。
Heavy rain brought Kuching’s API down to 156 by 5pm, but five Sarawak areas were still in the unhealthy range.
The latest APIMS readings reported on Tuesday put Serian at 182, followed by Sri Aman at 172, Samarahan at 155, Kuching at 156 and Sarikei at 154. The 10am update had placed Serian at 194 and Kuching at 176, so the afternoon rain helped in parts of the state without ending the haze situation.
An API reading from 101 to 200 is classified as unhealthy. That means a lower Kuching number after rain should not be read as a return to normal air: conditions can differ sharply between monitoring stations and can change again when wind or rain patterns shift.
For residents planning outdoor work, exercise or travel across Sarawak, check the latest station reading on APIMS before heading out instead of relying on how the sky looks in one neighbourhood. People who are more sensitive to haze should reduce strenuous outdoor time while the readings remain above 100.
The same update also placed Marudi under MetMalaysia’s Level 1 hot-weather alert, which covers maximum temperatures of 35–37°C for at least three consecutive days. The next useful checkpoint is whether the five unhealthy stations fall below 101 after further rain, or climb again if dry weather returns.

The local name to know is midin belacan—a fern cooked with shrimp paste—which makes a useful Sarawak side alongside seafood. For two people, I would start with grilled stingray or Cantonese-style steamed siakap, add midin belacan, and share one smaller prawn, squid or soup dish. For three or four, add a shared oyster pancake only if everyone wants something crisp and rich. Stall 18 is known for grilled stingray, steamed siakap, sea cucumber soup and prawns among Stall 18's common directions.
Seafood is selected by type and size, so ask for the estimated price before cooking—especially for crab, large prawns and premium fish. A two-hectare forest fire at Samunsam Forest Reserve in Lundu was extinguished after a five-day operation.
The blaze was detected on Aug 20. Firefighters from Lundu station used a forest-fire pump, a 500-foot hose line and water from a nearby river to put out the remaining 0.1 hectare, with the operation ending at 4.09pm on Aug 24. Drone monitoring by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation had estimated the affected area at about two hectares. The operation also involved the Forestry Corporation, the Department of Environment and the Natural Resources and Environment Board.
The fire is now reported as extinguished, but the public updates did not state its cause or mention injuries or evacuations. That distinction matters while Sarawak is dealing with poor air quality: residents should check the latest APIMS reading instead of assuming that every haze reading is linked to this site. Do not enter a restricted or remote forest area to investigate smoke; call 999 if an active fire is spotted. The next point to watch is whether agency monitoring detects any re-ignition.

A RM2.34 million project will widen the traffic-light junction linking Jalan Ling Kai Cheng and Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah in Sibu.
The work covers about 200 metres and is expected to begin in September, taking roughly four months. The existing two-lane junction will be reconfigured to handle through traffic, right turns and U-turns, with the aim of reducing queues heading towards Jalan Teku and vehicles turning into Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah. A separate RM350,000 upgrade will also cover 500 metres of Jalan Lilin and is expected to take one to two months if weather conditions hold.
For Sibu commuters, the likely trade-off is short-term disruption before the junction becomes easier to use. Most work is planned for the afternoon and night, when traffic is lighter, but the exact start date and temporary lane arrangements have not yet been announced. Motorists should slow down near the work area and allow extra time once construction signs appear. The next useful update will be the local authority's traffic arrangement for the September start.

Kakus 500公里伐木路拟分阶段升级
砂拉越Kakus内陆约500公里伐木路，已被列入分阶段提升的道路名单，目标是改善当地社区的交通连接。最新公布的路线包括Jalan Penyarai、Jalan Sungai Muput、通往Ulu Kakus的道路、Jalan Sangan–Nanga Merit，以及Jalan Nanga Takan。

500km of Kakus logging roads earmarked for upgrades
About 500km of logging roads in interior Kakus has been identified for phased upgrading, with the aim of improving access for communities that still lack reliable road connectivity.
The roads named in the latest update include Jalan Penyarai, Jalan Sungai Muput, the route to Ulu Kakus, Jalan Sangan–Nanga Merit and Jalan Nanga Takan. The figure is part of roughly 5,700km of logging roads across Sarawak identified for upgrading.
This is an identification and planning update, not a promise that all 500km will be rebuilt at once. The works are expected to be phased because of cost and difficult interior terrain; no start dates, tender packages or completion targets for the five routes were announced in the update.
For people travelling in Kakus, the practical point is to expect uneven conditions to remain while each phase is prepared. Smaller repairs are already being supported through Rural Transformation Project allocations, but residents and transport operators should check JKR Sarawak’s tender and road notices and allow extra time on rural routes until work notices are issued. The eventual test will be which route enters construction first and whether access remains passable during the works.

Padawan Biya拟建滤水系统，盼缓解旱季断水
Padawan Biya一带多个村庄目前仍依靠重力自流供水系统，遇上长时间干旱，水源就容易减少。当地提出在甘榜 Sapit 建设滤水供水系统，希望把较稳定的水源处理后，再输送给周边居民。
目前列入受惠范围的村庄包括甘榜 Nusa Raya、Kamas、Kiding、Kakas、Parang、Assum、Jaber 和 Sapit；方案也提到可延伸至附近的PGA营地、SK Kambug及其他村庄。

Padawan’s Biya villages may get a new treated-water system
A treated-water system has been proposed for the Biya area in Padawan after recurring dry-season shortages hit villages that still rely on gravity-fed supplies.
The proposed intake and treatment setup would be based in Kampung Sapit, which was identified as having a more reliable water source during dry periods. The plan could serve Kampung Nusa Raya, Kamas, Kiding, Kakas, Parang, Assum, Jaber and Sapit, with possible extension to a nearby PGA camp, SK Kambug and other villages.
This is a proposal, not a live project yet. The larger treated-water project for the Biya area was reported as approved in 2017 with RM270 million, but its implementation has been delayed; the latest update did not confirm a contractor, construction start date or final connection list.
For residents, that distinction matters: the plan may offer a backup while waiting for the long-delayed project, but it does not mean treated water is arriving immediately. JBALB handles rural water supply in Sarawak, so households should follow its Bau/Padawan notices for current interruptions and wait for a formal tender or construction update before making plans around the proposed system.

SUPP反击DAP要求增加州议席、加强“制衡”的说法，围绕砂拉越下一届州选举的政治攻防在古晋升温。
8月24日，SUPP古晋支部青年团，以及古晋Kota Sentosa州议员兼该党副财政叶耀星（Wilfred Yap Yau Sin）分别发表声明。他们认为，增加DAP议员并不自动等于更好的施政，真正的制衡应包括政策辩论、建设性批评，以及维护砂拉越在《1963年马来西亚协议》（MA63）下的利益。SUPP也质疑DAP身为联邦政府成员，却只在砂拉越强调制衡；这属于SUPP的政治指控，并非已经独立证实的事实。

SUPP has hit back at DAP’s call for more opposition seats in the next Sarawak state election, turning “check and balance” into the latest line of political contest.
Separate statements reported in Kuching on Aug 24 came from SUPP Kuching Branch Youth and Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, who is also the party’s deputy treasurer. They argued that more DAP seats would not automatically mean better governance, and said scrutiny should be tied to policy debate and Sarawak’s interests under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). The branch also accused DAP of being selective when criticising Sarawak while being part of the federal government. That remains SUPP’s political claim, not an independently established finding.
The immediate trigger was DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen’s appeal for voters not to leave him and Violet Yong as the party’s only two representatives in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, and to give DAP more room to provide checks and balance.
For Kuching voters, this is a political position-taking exercise, not a government decision: the statements do not change the current assembly composition or announce an election timetable. As the debate develops, voters can compare each party’s concrete record and proposals on MA63, federal-state finances, natural resources, education and healthcare instead of treating slogans as policy. The next useful signals are a substantive DAP response and any formal election timetable issued by the Election Commission.
