Sarawak Water says homes around Jalan Demak, Jalan Bako, Petra Jaya, Matang from Kubah Ria to Batu 9, Taman Sri Harmoni, Jalan Sultan Tengah and surrounding locations may face low pressure or a temporary interruption during the repair.
Households in the affected areas are advised to keep at least 24 hours of essential water before the work starts. Tankers will be deployed where needed, with priority for critical facilities and essential needs.
Motorists will be diverted via Jalan Matang Bersinar and Jalan Matang Bersinar 3 from Sept 3 to Sept 12. The longer traffic window covers site preparation, excavation, heavy machinery access and road reinstatement around the median.
Supply will return gradually after the pipe is refilled. Higher ground and areas farther from the main distribution system may take longer, and brief discolouration is possible while the lines are flushed. Sarawak Water will issue progress and restoration updates through its official channels.

Not every local-food stop has to happen in an old coffee shop. If the day is hot, rainy or already moving through Jalan Wan Alwi, D'Laksa inside Vivacity Megamall makes the asam-laksa break easier to fit in. The signature bowl leans tangy and fish-forward, with the tamarind sharpness doing most of the work. Sampadi Redbee Farm is the option for people who are willing to let food take them out of the city. The drive from Kuching is roughly an hour, and the experience is less “drop in for a quick plate” and more coastal setting, seafood and local ingredients, with accommodation and a pool if the plan is extended.

This is a route of three different kinds of stop: a living shophouse street, an open river promenade, and a small museum that rewards quiet reading. The order is a walking route, not a claim that one place is objectively better than the next.
Start under the five-foot ways of Main Bazaar, then turn into Carpenter Street when you want a slower, more everyday rhythm. The useful part is not simply photographing the façades: browse Sarawak handicrafts, pepper and old-town shops, then leave room for a coffee stop. It suits first-time visitors who want context and small discoveries; shoppers looking for a modern mall will find the pace and opening hours less predictable. Most shops are daytime businesses, and Sunday closures vary.

Walk downhill to the Sarawak River and follow the public promenade. This is the least structured stop and that is its strength: boats, the opposite-bank skyline and changing light give you reasons to pause, while the nearby streets make lunch or an early dinner easy. Come late afternoon if possible; exposed sections can feel hot at midday. The promenade itself is free, but river taxis, cruises and nearby businesses have separate hours and prices. It works for mixed-age groups and casual walkers, but not for anyone expecting a ticketed attraction with a fixed programme.

Lubok Antu haze closes 30 schools on Aug 28 as the district’s API reaches 200.
The Sarawak Education Department’s temporary closure covers 28 primary schools with 2,242 pupils and two secondary schools with 1,793 students. The API reading was 200 at 8pm on Thursday, after reaching 210 at 4pm.
This is a Lubok Antu district order, not a closure of every school in Sarawak. JPN Sarawak told schools to monitor APIMS readings and follow haze-related safety procedures. Parents should check with their school or the district education office for any update because the notice does not give a reopening time.

Bintulu flood-mitigation work at three sites is targeted to start in October after an extra RM53 million allocation.
The package covers remaining Phase Two components at Gem Park, Desa Damai and SJK Sebiew. The Bintulu DID may call the tender in early September, with physical work expected between mid- and late October.
A separate long-term study would examine Bintulu’s wider flood-mitigation system, including the capacity of existing measures and where upgrades are needed. Sarawak is considering an international consultancy working with local experts, but the firm, cost and scope are still under discussion.
The October date is a target, not a guarantee that flooding will stop. Residents in the affected areas should continue following local warnings during heavy rain while waiting for the tender notice and confirmed work schedule.

同日中午，Stutong另一场所也被查出涉及展示价格问题；执法人员扣查营业执照副本及一双标价29令吉90仙的鞋子。KPDN表示，两宗案件均援引《1999年消费者保护法令》第12（1）（a）条文调查；目前没有法庭裁决，不能当作已经定罪。
遇到价签与收费不符，消费者可先保存价签、收据并拍照留证，再通过KPDN投诉：WhatsApp 019-848 8000、电邮 [email protected] 或热线 1-800-886-800。

Two Kuching businesses are under investigation after displayed prices did not match the amounts charged.
KPDN Sarawak officers found the first case in Sejingkat at about 11.22am on Aug 26. A customer was charged RM13.20 for an item marked RM11.50, and officers took a copy of the business licence, four receipts, the price tag and a promotional tag.
A second case was recorded at a Stutong premise around 12.43pm, where officers seized a copy of the business licence and a pair of shoes marked RM29.90. KPDN Sarawak said both cases are being investigated under Section 12(1)(a) of the Consumer Protection Act 1999. No court finding has been reported.
Shoppers who spot a mismatch should keep the tag and receipt, take a photo if safe, and report it to KPDN through WhatsApp at 019-848 8000, [email protected] or 1-800-886-800.

Miri and Bintulu are set to receive expanded community HIV support under a RM2.25 million, three-year Sarawak allocation.
Teratak Kasih Tok Nan, first established in Kuching as a halfway home and support centre, will extend services that include treatment support, temporary shelter, counselling, psychosocial care, treatment monitoring, welfare assistance and community outreach.
The expansion brings this support model closer to people living with HIV, their families and other vulnerable groups in the two cities. It is being carried out through a partnership between the Sarawak Government, the Ministry of Health Malaysia, the Malaysian AIDS Foundation, Sunway Group and Yayasan PETRONAS.
It will also complement the Sarawak Health Access Programme (SHAPE), which helps eligible low-income patients with travel costs when they need specialised chronic-care treatment in other cities.
The funding has been announced, but the practical details for Miri and Bintulu are still to come: where the services will operate, when they will open and how referrals will be handled. Those details will matter to families planning treatment and travel.
林梦和老越商家、学校、医院及政府机构所依赖的网络，未来有望多一条不必绕经汶莱的砂拉越直连路线。
砂拉越数码经济机构（SDEC）与砂拉越电力公司（SESCO）8月26日在老越签署协议，计划利用州内现有通讯基础设施连接两地。整体网络衔接长度约1,926公里，并会采用 SESCO 的 Virtual Fibre 设施。
目前，老越商家面对电子付款网络问题，老越警察总部也曾出现网络连接不稳的情况。对北砂而言，这项工程要解决的不只是上网体验，也关系到线上学习、医疗、政府服务和紧急通讯能不能维持稳定。

Northern Sarawak’s connectivity plan is moving toward a direct Limbang–Lawas link, with the new route intended to reduce reliance on paths through Brunei.
The agreement signed in Lawas on Aug 26 brings Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and Syarikat SESCO Berhad (SESCO) together to use communications infrastructure already owned in Sarawak. It includes SESCO’s Virtual Fibre network, with the overall network alignment reported at about 1,926 kilometres.
The gap is felt in everyday services. Businesses in Lawas have faced e-payment problems, while the Lawas district police headquarters has also experienced internet issues despite its role in disaster management. Better links would support education, healthcare, government services and emergency response across the two northern divisions.
This is an infrastructure agreement, not a switch-on notice. The parties have not given a launch date, coverage map or speed target, so the next meaningful update will be where the route reaches and whether service interruptions ease.

8 月 29–30 日（星期六、日）8:00am–4:00pm；8 月 31 日（星期一）8:00am–12:00pm 卫理公会三马拉汉恩恩堂（Samarahan Grace Methodist Church），Taman Uni Central给 5–12 岁小朋友的三天活动，有营会活动、点心、午餐、营会衣服和集体游戏。这个是需要报名的活动，已经报名的家庭记得看好时间；还想问名额的话，就直接向主办方确认。

8 月 28 日（星期五）6:00pm 开始至 8 月 31 日（星期一）中午 卫理公会蒙恩堂（Sungai Maong Methodist Church），Lorong Stapok Utara，古晋这是给 13–18 岁青少年的 4 天 3 夜华语营会，主打团契、活动和完整的营会体验。同样属于报名活动，孩子已经报名的话，这个周末就要准备好参加啦。

8 月 30 日（星期日）8:00pm–11:00pm Kompleks Sukan Asajaya（Asajaya 体育综合场）愿意从古晋驾车到周边走走的话，可以考虑这一场 Merdeka 前夕音乐会。Bella Astillah、Bob Yusuf、Hairee Francis 等歌手会和 Simfoni Orkestra Negeri Sarawak 一起演出，现场会是很有社区节庆感的音乐夜。

如果是我安排，我会星期六晚上去 Rock In The City，星期日再看 Asajaya 音乐会。户外活动出发前记得看主办方最新通知，毕竟砂拉越这个月已经有活动因为烟霾和天气调整了。

Friday, 28 August, 6:00pm to Monday, 31 August, noon Sungai Maong Methodist Church, Lorong Stapok Utara, KuchingA four-day, three-night Chinese youth camp for ages 13–18, built around fellowship, activities and a full camp experience. This is another registration-based event, but it is worth knowing about if your teenager has already registered and is heading in this weekend.

Sunday, 30 August, 8:00pm–11:00pm Kompleks Sukan AsajayaUp for a short drive out of Kuching? The Asajaya Merdeka-eve concert brings together Bella Astillah, Bob Yusuf, Hairee Francis and other featured artistes with the Simfoni Orkestra Negeri Sarawak. Expect a big community-night atmosphere, music and fireworks-style celebration energy.

If I were planning the weekend, I would do Rock In The City on Saturday night and keep Sunday for the Asajaya concert. For the outdoor programmes, check the organiser’s latest update before leaving — haze and weather have already affected some Sarawak events this month.
