他是在与MAHB、AVSEC、边境管制机构AKPS及KLIA警区主任开会后，发表上述谈话。
事件背景：
一名39岁的马航机师在雅加达Soekarno-Hatta机场被捕，被搜出70,114粒摇头丸和冰毒，市值约RM4,500万。他本人也对冰毒、摇头丸和可卡因呈阳性反应。Tiong说机场是大门，安检如果出问题，整个国家的形象都会受影响。
