Kuching Seafood at 18 Topspot Seafood: A Practical First-Timer's Order
-
If your first Kuching seafood dinner feels like a menu maze, Stall 18 at Topspot is a sensible place to start: choose one fish, one local vegetable and one shared side, then ask about the price before anything goes on the wok.

The local name to know is midin belacan—a fern cooked with shrimp paste—which makes a useful Sarawak side alongside seafood. For two people, I would start with grilled stingray or Cantonese-style steamed siakap, add midin belacan, and share one smaller prawn, squid or soup dish. For three or four, add a shared oyster pancake only if everyone wants something crisp and rich. Stall 18 is known for grilled stingray, steamed siakap, sea cucumber soup and prawns among Stall 18's common directions.
Seafood is selected by type and size, so ask for the estimated price before cooking—especially for crab, large prawns and premium fish. A reasonable planning figure is around RM80, but treat that only as a rough planning figure; the final bill changes with the catch, size, cooking style and group size.
When to go and how to get there
Topspot is on Level 6 of the Taman Kereta rooftop food court along Jalan Bukit Mata, close to UTC Sarawak. It opens daily from 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM and recommends arriving earlier because tables are usually crowded by 6:00 PM. I would aim for 5:00–5:45 PM for an easier first visit, then walk towards the Kuching Waterfront or Sarawak Plaza afterward. Use the lift if you do not want to climb several flights of stairs; parking is in the multi-level Taman Kereta building, subject to availability.
Walk around once before sitting down, compare the seafood displays, choose Stall 18, and confirm the cooking method and price. Keep the order balanced: one fish, one prawn or squid dish, one vegetable and rice. That gives first-time visitors a clearer taste of the place without letting sauces or premium seafood take over the whole bill.
