A 400-megawatt floating solar project is planned for the Murum hydroelectric reservoir in Belaga after Masdar and Syarikat Sesco Berhad signed a power purchase agreement.
DayakDaily reported the agreement citing the Sarawak Premier’s Office. Sesco is a subsidiary of Sarawak Energy; the proposed panels would add solar generation at the reservoir serving the existing 944MW Murum hydroelectric plant.
The agreement was exchanged during an October 30 visit at the Satria Pertiwi Complex. The project itself is at Murum in Belaga, not at the exchange venue. The report did not state a construction start or completion date.
Sarawak Energy already operates a 50MW floating solar facility at Batang Ai. A further 120MW there and a 300MW installation at Bakun are planned separately; those figures should not be counted as operating capacity today.
