Two people were treated for breathing difficulties after a chemical storeroom fire at a Kuching hotel on July 17.

Bomba said the emergency call came in at 5.34pm, and firefighters from Padungan were sent to the scene. The Hazmat team from Tabuan Jaya was also called in because the room stored chemical products.
What happened
The fire involved an 8ft by 8ft storeroom. Six drums of calcium hypochlorite hydrated mixture were inside, and two were damaged by the fire. The chemical contains chlorine and is commonly used for water treatment.
The two victims were treated by Health Ministry medical personnel at the scene. Both were reported stable before being sent to hospital for further treatment.
Bomba’s Hazmat team carried out gas detection and stabilised the room with water spray until conditions returned to normal.
