Green Hill sits close to central Kuching, but dinner here can quickly feel like a small South Asian food tour. Ceylonese Restaurant is best known for its dramatic cheese naan, yet the menu stretches through Sri Lankan and North Indian favourites. It works especially well for a group: put one naan in the middle, add a curry and a rice dish, then share instead of committing to several heavy individual orders.

The cheese naan is the obvious first-timer order. Pull it apart while it is hot, when the bread is still soft and the cheese has not tightened. A savoury curry keeps the richness in balance; butter chicken is the approachable choice, while mutton or lamb curry gives a deeper, spicier pairing. Diners also frequently single out tandoori chicken and lamb-shank biryani, useful additions when the table wants more than bread and gravy.

There are lighter routes through the menu too. Thosai and appam suit breakfast-style appetites, while dhal and vegetable dishes make mixed-diet groups easier to organise. Anyone ordering vegan should still confirm that the kitchen leaves out ghee, butter, dairy and egg, because a vegetable dish is not automatically vegan. Portions can be generous, so two people are better off starting with fewer dishes and adding another only if needed.

This is a long-running halal restaurant rather than a new social-media pop-up. Its recent expansion adds more than 100 seats as demand grows, while the restaurant continues experimenting with specials such as Musang King cheese naan. The dining room can get lively at peak meal times. Parking is available around the Green Hill shoplots, but arriving before the main dinner rush makes both parking and table selection simpler.

For a balanced first meal, order one cheese naan, one tandoori item and one curry or biryani for the table. That covers the restaurant's crowd favourites without turning dinner into a stack of similar rich dishes. Ask about the day's availability and current prices when ordering, especially for seasonal or limited specials.
