The centre says more than 2,700 people have qualified since the scheme began in 2024.

The latest group received their licences at a presentation ceremony last week, The Borneo Post reported on Oct 23. The 522 figure refers to that group; the larger total is the programme’s cumulative reach, not a second batch of new recipients.

Miri MP and Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Chiew Choon Man said in a statement that the programme was intended to make licensing more affordable, particularly for people in need, and help them access employment and additional income.

This is a report of completed licences, rather than an announcement of a new application round. No new registration deadline or exact participant fee accompanied the update. Chiew also reminded recipients to obey traffic rules and wear a properly fastened, Sirim-approved helmet: the assistance lowers the barrier to obtaining a licence, but does not remove a rider’s road-safety responsibilities.
