The project covers 4.2km of former logging road, to be upgraded to R1 standard. It is one section of the wider Nanga Ngungun–Nanga Jagau route, rather than an upgrade of that entire road.

The Borneo Post reported that a commencement ceremony was held at Nanga Ngungun on October 17. The Rural and Regional Development Ministry project is being implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR).

For communities along the route, the intended benefit is better access between settlements and to essential services. The September 2028 target sets the delivery timetable for those improvements.
