Turn off Jalan Borneo Heights and let the road become part of the outing: this is a living Bidayuh village, not a staged cultural compound with a fixed programme waiting at the gate.

The houses make more sense once the village's movement is part of the picture. Biperoh families came from Bung Kom, built a 20-door longhouse and a panggah beside the Git River, then moved across the Sarawak Kiri River after a cholera outbreak in 1946. The longhouse was later replaced by individual homes. What looks like an ordinary modern village therefore records decisions about health, housing and geography; it is not a frozen display of tradition.

At the riverfront, leave room for the small details: bathing and resting by the water, boat movement, the bamboo crossing and the place that has served as the finish of the village's annual rafting competition. A short cave lies beyond jungle and rocky ground, while the fruit orchards make the most sense in the right season. These are local features to ask about, not a marked attraction route to enter on autopilot.

There is also a newer economic layer. In 2019, villagers set aside a large area for coffee planting, hoping agriculture could create a smallholder anchor and help draw roads and basic infrastructure. That gives the visit a better question than “where is the photo spot?”: how does a Bidayuh community keep land productive while opening a small window to visitors?

I would make Kampung Git a slow half-day drive from Kuching, pairing the river with a Padawan countryside route rather than travelling for a single quick stop. The current map pin is around km27 off Jalan Borneo Heights, 93450 Siburan, but it only gets you to the village; it does not guarantee a boat, cave guide, public toilet or parking arrangement. Wear shoes that can handle wet ground, ask before entering private land, and confirm weather and any river activity locally. It suits travellers who want community life, landscape and a little uncertainty; anyone expecting a polished attraction with timed activities may be disappointed.

Would you spend the afternoon by the river, or return in fruiting season when the village route has another reason to unfold?
